Almost there.......Aniekan and Mia were putting the final touches on today (Sunday) and hoped the mural would be completed today or tomorrow. Erykah Badu is complete, jazz legend Sun Ra was having the final touches added.

OK much more information...I spoke to the artist and his assistant Mia DuVall (I also have seen what the finished Mural will look like) Iconic Portrait and DC Mural Artist, Aniekan Udofia, famous for Marvin Gaye Mural in Shaw and Bens Chilli Bowl on U Street, amongst others, is working toward completion of this new mural in Blagden Alley, and yes its colors will blow you away...my initial report asked if this was going to stay as a 'drawing' but the answer is a definite no!.
I am kind of happy that this artwork is being installed in the Alley. We have lost, it seems, our last resident artist, Craig Nelson who is responsible for the many awesome mosaics in the Alley, and development has removed many signs that this was a center of art in Shaw...so Aniekan's new art is a welcome addition. Lets hope its a magnet for more art-works.

There is a new Mural in Blagden Alley. I am not sure that it is completed yet - I will keep an eye on it over the coming days.....but I like it in Black and White anyway.....
The mural is opposite the glass (garage) door of La Colombe
As yet I do not have the name of the artist

Thanks for the update. Do you know what is going on with construction on M Street, just west of Bladgen Alley, where they are going below grade? There is also a large project on N Street just west of Blagden Alley. Have you posted on these two projects before? I can't remember if you have.
ReplyDeleteHi There..at M Street and the Alley is a 3 unit condo by Ditto Residential (search "Ditto") 926 N Street and the Alley is a project by Suzane Reatig Architecture - I have never seen a rendering or know anyone who has (search 926 N ) Hope that helps
