LISNER AUDITORIUM: Upcoming Shows at GW's Lisner - Ladysmith Black Mambazo, globalFEST and Rhiannon Giddens - All February

Here is some info for a few upcoming shows at the Lisner, for February;
Ladysmith Black Mambazo - Feb. 12Ladysmith Black Mambazo comes to the Lisner on February 12th with their uplifting vocal harmonies, signature dance moves and charming onstage banter. Most recently, the four-time Grammy Award winning group celebrated the 25th anniversary of their collaboration with Paul Simon on his Graceland album. They are also nominated for a 2016 Grammy Award.

Globalfest - Feb. 19
Globalfest, a popular New York world music festival, will kick off its first-ever tour at GW's Lisner Auditorium.
The tour, "Globalfest: Creole Carnival," will feature
the reigning queen of Haitian songs Emeline Michel;




Rio de Janeiro's innovative samba masters Casuarina and Jamica's Brushy One-String, in the world premiere collaboration. Emeline is beloved for combining traditional Haitian rhythms with social, poltical and inspirational content. Casuarina is one of Brazil's most respected samba bands.



Brushy is a shape shifter when it comes to music, skillfully pairing a one-stringed guitar with his gritty, warm voice to produce music that comes from the soul.


Swimming in Dark Waters with Rhiannon Giddens, Bhi Bhiman and Leyla McCalla - Feb. 26
Led by powerhouse singer-songwriter Rhiannon Giddens,
 
recent Grammy nominee and founding member of Carolina Chocolate Drops, "Swimming in Dark Waters: Other Voices of American Experience" with Leyla McCalla and Bhi Bhiman will explore the experiences of people of color as outsiders that stand against injustice. The performance will focus on songs of resistance from the South, both old and new.
