WASHINGTON DC: Pastry Chef, Owner & Gelato Genius Gianluigi Dellaccio of Dolci Gelati to Compete at World Gelato Tour in Chicago, May 27-29

Italian native, Pastry Chef, Owner, and 'Gelato Genius' Gianluigi Dellaccio of celebrated authentic Italian gelato and sorbet company Dolci Gelati (www.DolciGelati.net) was selected to represent Washington DC in a competition for the North American Title at the Gelato World Tour taking place in Chicago May 27-29th, 2016. Dolci Gelati is just one of sixteen gelato artisans invited and confirmed to compete in Chicago, and is the only gelato artisan invited to compete from Washington DC.
The Gelato World Tour - the world’s premiere cross-cultural artisanal gelato competition – announced that they will bring this year’s competition to Millennium Park in Chicago May 27-29, 2016. With free admission to the public, the tour’s first stop in Chicago will present sixteen renowned gelato artisans from around the world as they compete to create the world’s best gelato flavor. Visitors and industry professionals are invited to enjoy lessons, hands-on workshops, and delicious demos showcasing the ancient art of making authentic gelato.

The winning formula of Gelato World Tour incorporates passion, artisanship, and culture. The gelato artisans themselves will tell their stories and present their flavors to the public, jury of experts, and journalists, whose votes will decide the final standings and the three finalists who will participate at the Grand Finale in Rimini, Italy, in 2017. Numerous activities based on artisanal gelato culture will accompany the challenge.
“I’m honored to have the opportunity to compete in this prestigious international gelato contest allowing me to continue sharing my knowledge and passion for making authentic Italian gelato on behalf of Dolci Gelati while representing Washington DC”, said Gianluigi Dellaccio, Pastry Chef, Owner, and resident Gelato Genius at Dolci Gelati in Washington DC. “To have the opportunity for my gelato to be judged on an international level while competing against some of the most talented gelato artisans is the chance of a lifetime and I really hope to shake things up in Chicago! I’m excited to represent DC at this competition and am even more excited to debut my creative gelato flavor - Pistachio Saffron with Candied Lemon Peel. It has been a best seller and crowd favorite here in Washington D.C. for Dolci Gelati, so I certainly hope the world enjoys it as much as our city does.”
Because artisan gelato is made fresh daily with the highest quality ingredients, has less air than traditional ice cream, and is served at a higher temperature, the flavors invigorate the palette while containing fewer calories and fat. This makes gelato one of the best choices for health-conscious food lovers who appreciate the finest flavors and textures.
Gelato World Tour has already traveled to nine cities: Rome, Valencia, Melbourne, Dubai, Austin, Berlin, Rimini, Singapore, and Tokyo. The prestigious Carpigiani Gelato University and Sigep – Rimini Fiera, the most important trade show for traditional gelato and pastry, have organized the event. Main partners are IFI, leading manufacturer of gelato display cases, and PreGel, the world’s largest producer of ingredients for gelato and pastry. Prodea Group is the event’s operating partner.
