DOWNTOWN: The Hay-Adams Celebrates Cherry Blossom Season with Festive Spring Specials

This spring, the award-winning Hay-Adams, located steps away from the White House at 800 16th Street, NW, is excited to celebrate the return of Cherry Blossom season in the District. This elegant oasis will be serving specials inspired by the crowd-pleasing trees, from March 20th through April 16th.  As it has become tradition in Washington, DC, the city commemorates the 1912 gift of 3,000 Japanese Cherry trees by former Tokyo Mayor Ozaki with the Annual Cherry Blossom Festival. In honor of this gift, Executive Chef Nicolas Legret and Executive Pastry Chef Josh Short invite guests on a gastronomic journey to honor Japan’s rich culinary arts.

The Lafayette, The Hay-Adams’ contemporary American dining room directly overlooking Lafayette Square, will offer guests a Japanese-inspired three-course, pre-fixe dinner menu in addition to the featured menu, priced at $75 (not including tax and gratuity). Guests will begin their meal with first course options Glazed Shiitake and Enoki Mushroom Mizuna Salad with cherry blossom white shoyu dressing or Grilled Octopus Salad, with spring onion and red pepper yuzu chili vinaigrette. Entrees include Seared Black Sea Bass, parsnip mousseline, royal trumpet mushrooms, coconut mint reduction as well as Roasted Muscovy Duck Breast with Asian pears and cherry chutney, red curry sauce. For a sweet finish, guests can indulge in Sakura & Lemon Balm Tartlet with strawberry wheels, white chocolate pearls.

Before or after dinner, guests may head downstairs to visit the legendary Off The Record Bar for a refreshing springtime specialty cocktail, the Pisco Blossom made with Pisco, Luxardo, St. Germain, cherries muddled with basil, egg white, simple syrup and lemon juice ($18).

For those who wish to take a few days to enjoy the diverse Cherry Blossom Festival programming, and visit the famed blossoms and historic landmarks on the National Mall, The Hay-Adams offers a Cherry Blossom Package. The offering includes a luxuriously appointed guestroom created by the renowned designer Tom Pheasant, a Sakura macaroons amenity, and a National Cherry Blossom welcome gift. One will also receive a specially commissioned, adult relaxation pocket-sized coloring book with a box of colored pencils, featuring 11 illustrations of famous Washington landmarks, including the Jefferson Memorial with the cherry blossoms, and The Hay-Adams, created by Pulitzer prize-winning political cartoonist Matt Wuerker. American breakfast for two each day is included, available through Room Service or in The Lafayette dining room. This package is available from March 20, 2017 through April 16, 2017, with rates beginning at $399 per night for a superior room (excluding taxes), based upon a minimum three-night stay.
