DOWNTOWN: The Hay-Adams’ Popular Political Coasters Now Available in Collector’s Gift Set

The Hay-Adams is pleased to announce that guests can now purchase the hotel’s privately commissioned collection of six acrylic drink coasters depicting some of Washington’s highest profile political figures. The set is presented in a handsome red leather holder, and is priced at $65 per set excluding taxes and shipping. One can enjoy placing their beverage upon notables including President Barrack Obama with President George W. Bush, President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary Hillary Clinton, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, and Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi with Senator Chuck Schumer. The coasters are the artistic handiwork of Pulitzer Prize winning cartoonists Matt Wuerker and Ann Telnaes, along with notable editorial cartoonist Kevin “KAL” Kallaugher.
“This coaster set was designed as a guestroom amenity for the 2017 Presidential Inaugural and based on the wonderful responses we received, we have added it to our minibar as a keepsake amenity for guests to purchase, as well as offering them through our concierge desk to special order,” states Vice President & General Manager Hans Bruland.
The Hay-Adams famous watering hole, Off The Record, Washington’s “place to be seen but not heard”, also features political coasters and has commissioned more than 20 collectable versions to date for guests to enjoy while patronizing the bar. The version presented in hotel’s bar is a complimentary paper product, and is also highly collectible.
The coasters mirror the expansive collection of political cartoons of leading politicians and Washington newsmakers that decorate the walls of Off The Record. Here the artwork on display, acquired by the Library of Congress, is part of a vast private portfolio of The Art Wood Collection of Caricature and Cartoons, which took 60 years for Arthur Wood to amass.
