Almost, But Not Quite | Operation Backpack Short by 100

Washington, DC—August 14, 2014—With our annual Operation Backpack distribution this weekend, Central Union Mission is only 100 backpacks away from serving all the needy children on our client list. Last year, we could provide enough backpacks and age-appropriate school supplies for nearly 1,200 children, but this summer we need some extra help.

Michaela Randall and her mom April are ready for school with Operation Back Pack.
“A successful school year begins with the right equipment,” comments Central Union Mission Executive Director David Treadwell. “Many families in our community can’t afford school supplies, so their children start out at a disadvantage. We created Operation Backpack to help fill that gap.”

Hundreds of donors provided new backpacks containing pens, paper, glue sticks and other materials, but we are still short 100 back packs. Please encourage your readers to participate in Central Union Mission’s Operation Backpack today. A list of suggested school supplies is here, and backpacks can be dropped off at our Gales School location at 65 Massachusetts Ave., NW, Washington, DC 20001, open 24-hours every day.
