Quick Shots #89: 1211 10th Street NW - Get Permits to Proceed

Badwolfdc has followed this since the middle of 2013. The developer now has the permits to proceed, to convert the historic single-family residence at 1211 10th St. NW (at the corner of 10th Street NW and Blagden Alley) to a three-unit condominium.
OPED: This property is one of the oldest standing structures in Shaw, or whats left of it! The developer allowed the structure to disintegrate (following multiple attempts to gain permissions to demolish) to the point where earlier this year the property collapsed. The developer has now been rewarded with the permits to proceed with there plan at the cost of (yet another) historic property in Shaw.

I am not a NIMBY or someone who wants to stop progress in our neighborhood. These historic properties that are being destroyed, can be saved and incorporated into future developments. There are a number of properties in Blagden Alley, Naylor Court and on 7th, 9th & 10th Street NW that are imminent danger from developers.
The Districts system for preserving these structures is extremely weak, for example, the destruction of the street facing facade on 1128th 9th Street NW cost the owner, the maximum, $2k - not exactly an incentive to save history (it should be noted that no work has been performed on this property since the stop work order in October 2013.)

To preserve the character of Shaw, The District, HRPB, and the multiple ANC's involved must strengthen the laws and enforce them.
