I have had a lot of inquiries about this situation. The owners of 1128 9th Street NW have fallen foul of the DC Government, HPO and local ANC as they began renovation and remodeling of the small structure close to the restaurant Baby Wale.
It seems that the owner failed to acquire building permits of any kind, or permission to 'alter' a property in a historic district. Fines have been attached and a Stop Work Order issued. (see pic below)
I have reached out to local sources for more information on the current and future status of this. I should update this post early this coming week.
