Notification of Marriott Marquis Tower Crane Coming Down - Road Closures

Notice from James Harper at Hensel Phelps concerning Tower Crane #1 (at 9th and L Street's NW)

This weekend the Marriott Project will be removing Tower Crane #1, which is the Tower Crane closest to the corner of 9^th and L Streets. This operation involves some very serious critical picks from the additional crane being brought in to perform the task. Unfortunately, the erecting of the additional crane begins at 2AM Saturday morning, and has a few noises associated with that work. Also, due to the location of Tower Crane #1, there will be too much risk and too many hindering obstructions in allowing vehicle thru traffic from the alley onto L Street. The pieces of the tower crane have to be removed, staged, loaded onto trucks, etc. Therefore L Street will be completely closed between 9^th  and 10^th Streets. There should still be windows of time for cab access to the corner of 10^th and L Streets when heading South bound on 10^th Street. Pedestrian traffic will be allowed along the sidewalk, but we encourage extreme caution. If you absolutely have to use L Street, please make eye contact with crane signal persons before traversing during maneuvers. This work is expected to be complete Saturday evening, but no later than 12 Noon Sunday.
