Connect 4: at the MLK Jr. Memorial Library downtown
Connect 4* is a series of temporary public art projects at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library produced by CulturalDC**. This series takes the visual art program off-site and enlivens the library space with work by local contemporary artists. The participating artists are Brian Davis, Nekisha Durrett, Sam Scharf and Anna Tsouhlarakis.
The series opening pieces are by Brian Davis, Circuit, and Nekisha Durrett, O'er Yonder. During my visit today, I did not view Circuit (I was not installed as yet) although I do understand that it is a participatory piece created out of chairs and wires and lights, I will be revisiting MLK Jr Memorial Library to check this out and I will update this piece.
Nekisha Durrett's installation in the windows over the entrance of the to the library is installed as of today (see below) and are inspired by the graphic novels that are available in the library. There is a story that goes with the artwork, the information desk has the handouts, but my preference is to skip the story and just enjoy Nekisha's work. O'er Yonder consists of 8 panels of differing size, much like a graphic novel in layout. Make sure to go see Nekisha's Installation Photo's.
*Connect 4, a CulturalDC public project is generously supported by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and by Timothy Hyde. In-kind support for Nekisha Durrett's project was provided by CSI Printing and Graphics.
**CulturalDC is a non-profit arts organization that makes space for art. CulturalDC operates Flashpoint at 916 G Street NW and Source at 1835 14th Street NW.

Entrance to the MLK Jr. Memorial Library at 9th & G NW |
There will be an opening reception with the artists on Tuesday May 7th from 5 - 7pm in the lobby of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library - something to consider. The Connect 14 project will be on display at the library through October 2013.
Below are the individual panels, in order, by Nekisha Durrett, unfortunately being on glass windows allows the background through, but, hey, that's another reason to go check them out yourselves.
It is so good seeing the city with its partners invest in the arts, provide viewings for the artists and to the cultural well being of the residents of DC.*Connect 4, a CulturalDC public project is generously supported by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and by Timothy Hyde.
