Gourmet Symphony and Capital City Symphony present
Taste Your Music
Bringing the joy of food and music to DC’s residents in need
Summer 2015

Gourmet Symphony and Capital City Symphony announce their partnership to present Taste Your Music, a groundbreaking community outreach program that will bring culinary concert programs to select food and service organizations in Washington, DC during summer 2015. The program will feature six culinary chamber concerts at three community service locations between June and August, and a benefit concert with a full symphony orchestra in September for the public to celebrate the project’s success. Taste Your Music (TYM) events will explore the intersection between music, food, and fellowship amongst DC residents of all socioeconomic backgrounds.

Taste Your Music is an innovative and socially conscious arts program designed to serve the needs of the District’s underprivileged residents, as well as to provide a source of inspiration and healing through music. Made possible with generous support from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities’ new funding initiative, Innovate DC, TYM joins local musicians, chefs, and social service organizations to raise awareness on the city’s poverty issue and creative solutions to social change. The project’s beneficiaries include Bread for the City, Miriam’s Kitchen, and So Others Might Eat (SOME). Each charity partner will host two culinary chamber concerts at their facility, featuring ensembles formed by Gourmet Symphony or Capital City Symphony musicians, and paired with chef-designed culinary elements that highlight the connections between food and music.
“We strive to provide a dignified and welcoming environment for the men, women, and children we serve and Taste Your Music will do that, as well as feed the spirit.”
“The artistic teams at Gourmet Symphony and Capital City Symphony are excited to deliver a top-quality musical experience to those in the DC region who might not normally have access to these types of events,” stated Gourmet Symphony Artistic Director John Devlin. “The players are eagerly anticipating their performances at these locations and hoping to make a meaningful contribution through their art.”
In keeping with Gourmet Symphony’s culinary-inspired concept, Taste Your Music will enlist DC chefs to work hand-in-hand with the charity partners’ kitchen staff in the creation of nutritious and budget conscious meals to be served at the chamber concerts. The culinary elements will be customized to meet each partner’s needs and to enhance their operating services. Gourmet Symphony and Capital City Symphony will assume the costs of all ingredients and food preparation for TYM events.
“Taste Your Music will allow us to bring something truly gourmet into some of the hardest working kitchens in the city, often serving nearly 800 hungry and homeless residents a day,” added John Coco, Business Director for Gourmet Symphony. “We are thrilled to have this opportunity to build lasting relationships with our community service partners, present new and sustainable culinary practices for these kitchens, and bring a joyful experience to hundreds of DC's most deserving citizens."
