DOWNTOWN: July 4 and new breakfast and ice cream sandwiches at Astro Doughnuts
Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken will celebrate 4th of July by offering their popular birthday cake and USA doughnuts.
The birthday cake doughnut is a chocolate cake doughnut with vanilla glaze, buttercream and sprinkles from India Tree in Seattle, a specialty confection company that uses concentrated vegetable colorants in their sprinkles and no synthetic dyes. The USA Doughnut is a vanilla glazed doughnut with raspberry drizzle, blueberries and the letters USA piped in chocolate. The specialty doughnuts will be available on July 4 only, and will also be available by special order on July 3. One half dozen order with 3 birthday cake and 3 USA doughnuts will be available for $14, and an 8-piece chicken can be added to the order for a total of $33
Starting on Tuesday, June 30, Astro will also launch some new sandwiches for the summer: a breakfast egg sandwich and a doughnut ice cream sundae. The new breakfast sandwich is a poached egg on a savory doughnut for $4.50. A fried chicken rendition is available for $5.00 and add-ons include an egg (from Trickling Springs) for $2, bacon ($0.75), Trickling Springs cheddar cheese ($0.50) and sausage gravy ($0.75)
The breakfast sandwiches are available Monday to Friday 7:30AM-10:30AM and Saturday 9 AM-12 PM. The Doughnut Ice Cream Sundae features ice cream and toppings on a brûléed vanilla doughnut. Ice cream varieties from Trickling Springs Creamery include butter pecan or vanilla and toppings include caramel or hot fudge, whipped cream and bacon **there's a $0.75 add-on for bacon only. The Doughnut Ice Cream Sundae is available for $5.50 Monday to Friday 1:30-4 PM and Saturday 12-3 PM.
