SHAW: Espita Mezcaleria Introduces A New Weekday Lunch to Go
Too busy to break for lunch, Espita Mezcaleria, restaurant, located at 1250 9th Street, NW, has that covered. This popular oasis for mezcal and southern Mexican fare is now offering a new takeout menu for worker bees in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC. Guests can place their order at the bar or by calling (202) 621-9695, and the meal will be ready for pick-up within minutes. Espita’s new takeout offering is available exclusively during lunch service, which is served Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Executive Chef Alexis Samayoa's takeout menu features starters such as Guacamole Clasico with avocado, jalapeño, onion and cilantro, along with six salsas that incorporate fresh chilies sourced locally, and dried chilies imported from Mexico. Standouts include Pistachio with roasted tomatillo, Serrano, sherry and mint, Roja with guajillo, roasted tomato, chipotle and garlic, Verde Asado with roasted tomatillo, onion, garlic and Serrano, Chipotle Tomatillo with moritas, onion and garlic, Arbol with sesame, pepitas, cider vinegar and allspice, as well as Borracha with mezcal, orange and moritas. Guacamole is priced at $10, and salsas are priced at $3 each. Both will be accompanied with chips made from fresh tortillas.
There is also a selection of Sopes, Ensaladas, Tacos and Tortas, served on a brioche roll from Lyon Bakery, are also available. Sopes include Smoked Eggplant with salsa borracha, queso fresco and cilantro and the Birria de Short Rib with salsa roja, onion and cilantro. Ensaladas featured on this new menu are the Green Kale with candied walnuts, queso fresco, chile pasilla and agave vinaigrette, and the Market Greens with shaved asparagus, haricot verts, queso fresco and jalapeño vinaigrette.
Taco choices include the Skirt Steak with salsa baga and cilantro; Chicken with red bell pepper sofrito; Al Pastor with salsa ranchera and seared pineapple; Grilled Tilapia with pickled carrot, cabbage slaw and chipotle mayo; Maitake Mushroom with salsa borracha and pickled white onion; Fried Oyster with upland cress, red onion, lime mayo and cracked pasilla, and the Smoked Pork Jowl with mustard oil mayo, shredded lettuce and red onion. Tortas offered are the Milanesa, crispy chicken, shredded cabbage, chipotle mayo and cilantro; Hamburguesa, short rib, green chorizo, rajas, queso Oaxaca, lime mayo and salsa roja, as well as Fried Fish, tilapia, lime mayo, onions and green cabbage. Lunch takeout items are priced from $3 to $23 each.
