Quick Shots #5: K Street Streetscape Ribbon Cutting

Much anticipated by the residents around the Mount Vernon Square neighborhood and City Vista, the Mayor, DDoT and ANC6 dignitaries cut the ceremonial ribbon marking the end to construction, and the beginning of meaningful use, in this lively and growing cross-road (5th & 6th & K Street NW). Local Merchants set up tables, vendors displayed their goods, and yes, the people came. They were welcomed by Caribbean music, which was fitting on a hot and steamy Saturday afternoon, from a really good DC band, there was some fun and play (for the kids to) and, as this was the purpose, a "city positive" attitude from our officials. The festival was played out in style with the beats of Go-Go.

The Mayor, who had a busy morning flitting around DC from event to event, arrived on time and was energetic, lauding the District, DDoT and its engineers, and the support of the community through the ANC6 Commissioners. The Mayor also thanked the areas merchants, who really created the neighborhood.
All in all a very successful day for all concerned, and so it should be, the project is completed and the improvement marked, as anyone who used or knew K Street of old will attest to.

  1. #ANC6E needs a tent for outdoor events like this since we now have a commission Chair who believes in open honest and accessible community engagment with all residents.
