Update 10/28/2013:
Its been a while since I visited "The Stables" in Naylor Court NW. Much has been done, and although a little more will be completed over the coming few weeks, the overall 'feel' is there, and the amount of care taken to 'legitimize' the new structures as a (new) part of the alley.
Lets go to the rear first;

Access to the rear is by vehicle or pedestrian (sorry the wire fence is in the way for the gate - left)
The rear of the buildings have a more modern feel with 'Juliet' balconies
More work is being done on the rear carriage houses, it is expected that the work will be completed over the next two weeks.
At the front of the buildings the most noticeable work is being done. Stable doors are being added - and yes they are functional, although that will be at the owners discretion, iron doors will be added over the next few weeks. The upper floor windows have working shutters, again its up to the owners whether to use them or not. The hardware for all these add-on's is in tune with the architecture of the alley and were specifically chosen to meet that standard. Finally, well for this post, the red-brick paving is being re-installed in the alley. There had been quite a bit of local debate about whether or not this would be done, so I am happy to report that the developer's are completing this, and went out a purchased 'aged' bricks, so that when completed there will be only a marginal difference in the color from the existing brick. All in all, as the project is reaching its completion the buildings fit right in to the community and enhance the alley living vision.
Working Shutters with period correct hardware
The Stable Doors slide on runners, but the soon iron gates will become the main access security
I took this a week ago, to show how the new building melds with the existing alley structures
PLEASE NOTE: THIS WILL BE THE LAST UPDATE IN THIS POST. I WILL BEGIN A NEW STREAM TO FOLLOW THE FINAL WORK AND (HOPEFULLY) TO PHOTOGRAPH THE INTERIOR.

Update 9/10/2013:
I decided to put these photographs at the top of the posting as they really give a view of what the finished product will look like. You can go to the original posting and see for yourselves how close the renderings are to the (near) finished product.
The brick facing is on the front and side, windows and doors in place. The exterior is almost complete

The rear will not have brick, so here the siding is being installed

Its been a while since I have written about "The Stables at Naylor Court" a project from OPaL of Cabin John Md. The project is now back on track after a delay, caused by underground water and sewage pipes, although some remedial work on the utilities remains. The buildings themselves are now nearing 'exterior' completion, and you get the feeling that, barring some major problem, that they should be ready for habitation by the end of the year. The brick facing is already being added to the small rear 'carriage houses' and the main structures have windows and doors.OPaL promised that the buildings would blend in and they have certainly been true to their word.
Once these are faced, with brick, they will fit right in with the alley's other properties
Huge windows overlook the rear courtyard
Doors are in, windows are in, next is the brick facing - can't wait to see the finished exterior
The first of the 'carriage houses' has the majority of the exterior completed - looks nice!
The middle unit is now 'on the clock'
Bricks are up, just the finishing now
One of my favorite things: Bricked over windows, but this is new made to look old - good job
Brick facing is now going up on main buildings, like the use of old brick
OPaL is selling the units, although no word yet as to interest, my money is on them being sold before completion - great neighborhood, location and alley vibe in a new construction.

Update 9/4/2013
Little by little the structures are nearing completion. The small carriage houses are almost complete, now with their "stable" doors (for effect). The front brick facing of the main buildings is almost complete and work on continues and work on the rear is coming along.......
The "stable doors" are up - and look, oh so good

The Brick Facing is almost complete on the alley facing, front of the structures
