Virginia: Highline RXR Opens in Crystal City - Geoff Dawson and Peter Bayne's Newest Concept

Highline RXR, (more pics here) the 7,300 square foot community-inspired restaurant/bar concept at 2010 Crystal Drive in the heart of Crystal City, has opened its doors.
Highline RXR is owned and operated by Geoffrey Dawson and Peter Bayne, the duo behind Penn Social, CarPool, Buffalo Billiards and Rocket Bar and Lost and Found. Highline RXR was designed to transform the corner of the 20th Street and Crystal Drive into Crystal City's front porch.
“The number one thing people want in their community is a place beyond work and home, something we call the ‘3rd Space’,” said Dawson. “At Highline people can literally and figuratively get outside of their box either to hang with friends, collaborate with colleagues or meet new people.”
Featuring a cutting edge Nana Wall of disappearing windows as its entry, Highline RXR will be a neighborhood meeting house during the lunch hour, serving lunch and coffee in an environment primed for working sessions with outlets for customers to charge phone, laptops and other electronics.
By late afternoon, Highline RXR will transform into a place for happy hours, local craft beers and cocktails, featuring 31 beers on draft, projector screens for sports fans, board games and arcade games, and a wide variety of special events ranging from Trivia to Competitive Karaoke to live music.
Highline RXR has an industrial design that is both comfortable and inviting without losing its rough edges. The interior walls were painted and designed by emerging Washington DC artist Kelly Towles, who has also contributed to Crystal City street art.

Highline RXR joins a number of other creative companies that have taken root in Crystal City over the past year.

  • Crystal Tech Fund, a new $50 million venture fund that opened in April 2014, is now home to several high-growth technology companies that are co-located in Crystal City across the street from Highline;
  • TechShop, the nation’s leading maker studio provides tools, equipment and classes to a growing community of inventors, visionaries and entrepreneurs who come to Crystal City from throughout the region;
“The Highline RXR concept adds new fuel to the creative community here in Crystal City, offering a true neighborhood space for gathering,” said Mitchell Schear, President of Vornado/Charles E. Smith.
Highline RXR is open:
Monday – Friday: 11:00 a.m. – until closing
Saturday and Sunday: 4:00 p.m. – until closing
