Old NPR Building Construction Fencing - get ready for Pedestrian Disruption

Updated 4/28/13 Content.
The old NPR building at 7th and Mass Ave NW is now in its cage. The fencing is up between 6th and 7th on Mass Ave NW and K Street NW, as well as 6th Street NW between Mass Ave and K Street. Basically the whole city block is fenced in (including sidewalks)
Walking around is getting very difficult indeed, and everyone needs to be cautious, and not walk in the roadway. The Bus Stop at the corner of 7th and Mass Avenue is the only walkable space, so if you catch your bus there you are OK.
There is space to catch the bus at 7th and Mass NW
There is limited walking space across Mass Avenue, in front of the new Georgetown University Annexe that is being built (reference: next to Blackboard on Mass Ave)

K Street between 6th and 7th is a pedestrian no go zone now open to pedestrian traffic, both only one side of the street is now blocked to pedestrians (I'm sure that in the future vehicular traffic will be limited as well)

I took a few photographs to give yo a feeling of how awkward getting around is going to be for the foreseeable future.
6th Street NW - pedestrian access on one side of the street only
Mass Avenue viewed from 6th Street - no pedestrian access
As of now I do not know when construction will begin on the site, I will monitor and update as information becomes available

  1. Thank you for the photographs of that place. I can understand how uncomfortable it would be for the pedestrians at that time. I myself felt the same way when my locality was closed for construction work.

    1. Thank you for your comment. I try to inform my community about such things, its not as glamorous as an opening of a new restaurant etc. but knowing that your schedule could be disrupted is just as important

  3. The government should ban the construction of multi stroyed buildings as any accident causes heavy loss of money and manpower .
