SHAW: Chef Jose Garces to Open Restaurant in Blagden Alley

Chef Jose Garces of the Garces Group will open his second Village Whiskey restaurant, this one, according to the Philadelphia Business Journal (PBJ) will be at 920 N Street NW, in Blagden Alley. The Badwolfdc Blog reported at the beginning of April that Douglas Development had proposed plans for a new structure, that would be a restaurant. PBJ reports that Douglas Development and The Garces Group are working together on the project.
According to Fran Hilario of the PBJ, the restaurant will encompass 4,459 square feet, including 1,720 sq.ft. of outdoor space. The restaurant (yet to be built) is slated to open next year.
New restaurant will be located adjacent to Rogue 24 in Blagden Alley
Hilario went on to report that
"Chief Development Officer Rob Keddie made the announcement Tuesday night at the group’s restaurant VolvĂ©r during a “season two” press dinner.
The Garces Group operates 19 restaurants, three of which opened this year: The Olde Bar and Buena Onda in Philadelphia and Rural Society in Chicago.
Eleven of the group’s restaurants are in Philadelphia. It also operates restaurants in New Jersey, Arizona and California.
The group opened a Rural Society in Washington last year. It’s also attached to Union Market that will open next year. The group will also open an Amada in New York later this fall."

The new structure, that will house the restaurant, has received CDC approval, which is the first stage of the projects journey through the community approval process (it still will need ANC and ABRA approval) So nothing is definite at this stage, and based on recent community opposition to other projects, Douglas Development and The Garces Group probably have a long process in front of them.
