WASHINGTON DC: Hungry Harvest Reduces Food Waste & Fights Hunger - 'Join The Revolution'
Hungry Harvest, LLC is a surplus produce delivery company. Six billion pounds of edible produce is wasted every year in the US, while 50 million Americans don't know where their next meal is coming from. We buy this 'ugly' produce from local farms, bag it up, and deliver it weekly to customers in Washington DC and Maryland in a CSA-model (Community Supported Agriculture). In addition, for every bag we deliver, we donate a healthy meal to a person in need.
We don't just fight hunger and reduce food waste, however. We've deliberately built social value in every aspect of our model. We support local farmers by providing revenue for goods they wouldn't have normally sold. We make it easier for consumers to eat healthy by delivering, making healthy food affordable, and providing recipes. Finally, we create jobs for those in need by partnering with homeless shelters to hire their residents. We sell Produce with Purpose. You can find more on our website www.hungryharvest.net
