Hey U Street peeps, time to get excited. La Colombe Coffee will be opening its third DC location in your neighborhood, in the Manhattan Laundry at 1346 Florida Ave. Work is in progress, but the La Colombe's DC Manager assures me that they will be open for business by the end of June.
La Colombe has two other locations (for those that don't know about them) one in
Blagden Alley off of 9th Street NW and the other at
6th and I St NW, across from the Synagogue. I'm told that the Manhattan Laundry location will become their flagship location in DC.
I visited there today and took some photo's of the work so far, but fear not the remaining work is not as extensive as you might think. (
You can view this article as a plywood report) The location will be the largest of the La Colombe locations in DC, and seating is planned for 40 plus people (including a table for 8, for casual business meetings). The bar will be a huge horseshoe, that will serve the famous great coffee La Colombe is famous for (I say that as a huge fan of La Colombe in Blagden Alley). All of the (extensive) windows in the structure are staying so the natural light is a delight - the overall impression is one of space/light and add in the smell of fresh brewed coffee and it will be a neighborhood favorite in no time.

I already have a pretty good idea of the opening date, but I also know that these dates tend to slip for unseen issues. So end of June is where we stand. Keep looking out on the Badwolfdc Blog for the date and any opening specials etc.
