Original Post:

Located at 6th & I Streets NW, on the border of Chinatown(Penn Qtr) and Mount Vernon Triangle, the new La Colombe Coffee is set to open on Sunday 15th (please check their twitter account for any updates)....definitely something to line-up for.(you lined-up for cookies and chicken!! but this is La Colombe Coffee folk's

As part of the development going on on Mass Ave. and I Street NW, Mr Wong's Chinese restaurant has been transformed into La Colombe's 2nd DC location. (the original La Colombe is located in 'hip' Blagden Alley). Today I got my first opportunity to see the inside and check out the renovation. La Colombe always seems to pick interesting locations for there coffee bars and this is no different, the buildings containing the coffee shop date back to the turn-of-the-century (1900's) and has seen good and bad times, and of course the landmark, 6th & I Synagogue is just across the street.

No Mr Wong, but maybe I can La Colombe GM Dave Bise on the Roof soon
The coffee bar takes up the entire space facing 6th Street, and part of the town-house on I Street. The first thing that strikes you on entering is the amount of natural light that envelopes the interior, when you visit you will see that besides a multitude of windows, the are also sky-lights. The industrial lighting adds the rest. The serving bar is huge, wrapping around into what seems to be 2 serving spaces...the end result is that with a lot of space for thirsty customers, and an extended service area the people flow should please all that visit. The upper 'nook', part of the restored townhouse on I Street will, undoubtedly, be a favorite spot for people watching inside and street-side, or for just a little extra quiet and privacy.

Dave Bise, the Group Manager for La Colombe's DC operations tells me that the hours will be from 6.30am till 7pm Monday thru Friday, so folks on the way to work will be able to stop and get their coffee in the morning. La Colombe will be open weekends, 7.30am till 7pm, so early risers - your weekend is covered.

OK First Look inside;

Huge service space, should keep the line moving
Plenty of seating & plenty of natural light
Upper deck nook
Just waiting for the exterior signage
