MVT: D.C. Bar Announces Groundbreaking for New Headquarters in Mount Vernon Triangle Area - June 6

The District of Columbia Bar is proud to announce the groundbreaking of their new headquarters at 901 4th St., NW, in the Mount Vernon Triangle neighborhood. Crews will break ground on the 100,000-square foot building on June 6, 2016 in front of local officials, dignitaries, and D.C. Bar leadership. 

The Bar is the largest organization to plan a move to this area to date. It will occupy around two thirds of the building, or nearly 70,000 square feet, with the rest set aside for lease by other law firms, government agencies, retailers and restaurants. This $70 million project is the largest in history of Bar and will save the Bar at least $25-32 million in occupancy costs over 30 years.

The space, which is estimated to be completed by late 2017, will reflect the changing landscape for the D.C. Bar and ways to support its members. It will include a video production studio for education programs and space for member collaboration. The building will also feature more than a full floor of meeting and classroom space, given the D.C. Bar hosts roughly 25,000 member visits a year for continuing education courses and many other events.

“In breaking ground, we open a new chapter for the Bar, one that will acheive long-term cost savings that were never before possible and that will greatly enhance our legal community” said Tim Webster, current President of the D.C. Bar. 

“After several moves over the Bar’s 40+ year history, it’s good to have a permanent home” said long time CEO, Katherine Mazzaferri. 

“This building will serve as a state-of-the-art facility for our members, allowing us to provide them with more resources, while addressing our role as a Bar representing members in 50 states and 80+ countries.” said Victor Velazquez, D.C. Bar Chief Operating Officer.

The base building has been designed by Washington based Hartman-Cox Architects, and the interior design work was handled by Alliance Architecture, with offices in DC, MD and NC.
