SHAW: Carter G. Woodson Memorial Park is Open in Shaw - Father of Black History Gets His Due.

A long time coming, but the memorial to Carter G. Woodson is now here and open. As Badwolfdc reported back in January, DCPR (Parks & Recreation) has been working to complete the park that was planned quite a while back.
The Park at the end of 9th Street NW at Rhode Island Ave and Q Street's NW.The Park, a $1 million memorial to "the father of black history", feature a bronze sculpture of Carter G Woodson, seated, on a circular stone base, and surrounded by paved plaza space as its centerpiece.
The sculpture of Dr. Goodson, was created by Ray Kaskey. Mr Kaskey's work is featured at the WWII Memorial on the Mall, and he is also known for the Lions at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and a number of other major sites in Washington DC. (more here).
DCPR saved most of the 'mature' trees that where present in the old green space, as well as a large planting of shrubs, flowering plants and grasses. Good Job DCPR. Along with the seating area, it all makes a serene place to sit and unwind.

Its definitely worth a visit DC.
