A Quick Look at What is Happening in Shaw (Part Two)

So in Part One of What is Happening in Shaw, I looked at the 1800 block of 7th Street.
Having taken Metro to Shaw/Howard I walked up 7th Street towards Florida Avenue, of course you can't just do that..you have to check out T Street on either side of 7th. All Souls (725 T Street, NW) a tavern that features craft (and mainstream) beers and wine. Developed by David Batista, who boasts Jose Andres' Jaleo and Zatinya, in his credentials. Yes its open.
Across 7th Street at at Ellington Plaza , Right Proper Brewing Company (624 T Street, NW) is a new micro brew pub featuring artisanal beers brewed on the premises. Created by Rockland's BBQ owner John Snedden and Thor Cheston, former operations director for Brasserie Beck, Right Proper Brewing Co. are bringing Beer and the Barbeque, that made Rockland's famous, to this casual venue steps from the Howard Theatre.
Staying on T Street and walking past The Howard Theater, you will merge with Florida Avenue, and come to the new site for the highly favored Rito Loco Food Truck, (606 Florida Ave NW) who will be opening a brick and mortar restaurant in May
Rito Loco is located in the old Reese's barbershop location and next door to Kafe Bohem and Bistro Bohem (600 Florida Avenue NW) both well established hot spots in Shaw offering flavorful Central European cuisine in a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere

Cross 6th Street and you find Shaw's Tavern (521 Florida Avenue NW). Offering classic comforts and rustic delicacies, Shaw's Tavern is an exciting DC gastropub and popular with local Shaw residents.
At 5th and Florida Avenue there is word of a new neighborhood centric tavern The Royal (501 Florida Avenue NW) Paul Carlson, owner of Vinoteca (off 14th & U St), is set to open this small tavern offering cocktails and craft beer along with a small menu of comfort food. This property was previously a liquor store and will need extensive work to transform into a restaurant, so this may not open until the end of 2014
Walking back towards 7th Street you will find work going on at 639 Florida Ave. NW this is the future home of a new full-service restaurant, Ching.(639 Florida Ave NW) Serving Thai and Asian cuisine, according to new permits (1/22/14) Ching will seat 21 on the first floor, 29 on the second floor and 34 more on a roof deck. Right now the project looks a mess, but expect work to proceed quickly now the permits are in place.
Another newly opened restaurant on Florida Avenue is across 7th Street is Dunya (801 Florida Ave, NW) Dunya, created by restauranteur Hasnaa Farouidi and creative director Neema Sadeghi teamed up with Chef Rafael Viera and specializes in Modern American cuisine with a global Mediterranean twist.
I am going to stop right here, but I promise that there will be a Part 3, that will look at 9th /Florida/U Street's and the new small business' and restaurants in that cluster....look for the next post in this series in the next 7 days. Remember all these locations are within an easy walk. Thanks for reading.
