NOTICE: Marriott will close L Street NW between 9th and 10th on January 29th

UPDATE: 1/28/2014 - IMPORTANT - 29th January Cancelled (Top of Post)

Here is a new notification for the testing of Fire Hoses and Equipment at the Marriott Marquis:

"Due to the cold weather temperatures tomorrow, the previously mentioned fire pump test will be cancelled. The new schedule date shall be next week Thursday, February 6th, 2014. The activity has been reported to take place in the morning and to be of minimal disturbance. Therefore, we are in the process of updating the permit to reflect the new date.

On another note there will be another activity to take place beginning as early as this weekend (more likely next week), that will narrow L Street down to one travel lane. This underground utility work will eliminate parking on L Street for about one week. Although it may only take a few days, we are preparing for one week. Traffic will still flow, and there will be no hindrance to pedestrians, however no parking is necessary. It is imperative that cars do not park once this work starts or they will absolutely have to be towed in order for traffic to flow. As soon as we finalize the details of the dates and durations, another notice will be communicated.

Thanks to all for your patience, as we are almost there."

This notification is issued by James Harper of Hensel Phelps, notifying the community of a street/alley closure. The notification is of importance to local residents and vehicle traffic that uses L Street NW.
 I have reprinted exact memo....

Community Neighbors,

Next week on Wednesday January 29th, 2014, the Marriott Marquis project will be shutting down L Street in order to conduct a fire pump test. This testing involves hoses and equipment that will traverse perpendicularly across L street, and therefore no traffic will be able to get through. This would also restrict southbound traffic from the Alley onto L Street. Pedestrians will be fine, but look out for flowing water.

We will have the permit in place for 01/29/14 from 6AM to 6PM, however we only anticipate having the street closed at a few instances that would last roughly an hour long each. But this is construction, and we have to prepare for things to not go as smoothly as planned, hence the time window.

The important part will be no parking during this time. Placing, moving, and adjusting the equipment will require no cars to be parked along L Street. Therefore the plan is to have signage posted no later than 72 hours before the closure, and if time permits I will find time to create some notes to place in the windows of cars that will be on L Street.

If it gets too cold that day, we will postpone and try another day, and will communicate such. The Hotel opens on May 1st, 2014! We are almost there, so keep in mind you may see a lot of activity over the next three months. Thanks to everyone in advance.
