If you are a visitor to DC, and have an eye for Street Art - "Art" not "bombing and graffiti" then you won't go wrong in Shaw. If your from DC and have seen some (most have seen some but not all) then revel in the wonder, talent and color of the Murals of Shaw.
Below is a gallery of some of my favorites - they cover a very walkable area between P St and Florida Ave NW. The majority are on 7th, 9th and Florida....but if you are in the area and explore you will surely find more......here we go
One of the most photographed |
By Howard Theater - this is a partial - rises to the roof |
Same alley as above - interesting as its made of wood |
Alley walls & Garage doors are popular canvas's |
Florida Ave - between 6th & 7th |
One of the most stunning murals in the city - Children's Playground on Westminster Street between S and T Streets /off 9th Street |
Close up of the top right - shows another example of that love affair DC has with Jazz |
On S Street at 8th - monochrome - that's unexpected - Capitol Pool Checkers Club |
Also on S Street - closer to 7th |
And one from an earlier beloved Blog Posts:
Just iconic at 7th & Q |
That's it for now....I hope you got some enjoyment from seeing some of the Shaw neighborhood murals, there are other posts on this blog that cover street art in Shaw (
Blagden/Naylor) and also a post on street art that is
now sadly gone...
Local residents - CALL OUT - if there is a mural that I did not show here (Shaw only please) let me know, I will go photograph it and add it in to this gallery
