Dino leaving Cleveland Park looking for rebirth in Shaw ??

Update: Content 1/10/2014 - Dino extends in Cleveland Park  until February 23rd. Dean Gold signed the lease today for the new location at 1914 9th St. NW, in the former Portico space in Shaw. Gold will take possession of the property on Feb. 10, and he hopes to open the more casual Dino's Grotto sometime in March. (See Press Release at Bottom of Post)
Cleveland Park's Italian restaurant Dino is closing on January 12th, and Chef /Owner Dean Gold has plans to bring his take on Italian food to Shaw. As part of the plan Dean is using crowdfunding Indiegogo to help finance the new restaurant, which will be called Dino's Grotto.

 On the move:
"It's clear that we at Dino depend on you, our fans, as our number one source of support. And crucial to our success in bringing Dino's Grotto to Shaw is that we develop new fans in the new neighborhood. Dino has won the Washington City Paper’s Best Italian Restaurant category in their Reader’s Poll the last two years. Dino has been named either #1 or #2 favorite restaurant in the Washingtonian’s Favorite Restaurant Category four years running, and Best Italian the last 2 times it was awarded. So it’s no surprise that now, as we seek to bring Dino’s Grotto to Shaw, we again turn to our fans, both long established and potential, to help us."
On Indiegogo:
"We would love it if we could entirely finance the restaurant thru this campaign so we can birth our new baby with just our own resources and fan support. This is the only way we can have the freedom to do what we do best: support our sustainable network of small family farms & wineries, and artisan producers deliciously! It will take over $200,000 in total to bring the new Dino's Grotto to fruition. So even when we hit our target, please keep on donating! Then we can give our regulars and our new customers what they want."

On Shaw:
"The Shaw neighborhood is undergoing a rebirth of vibrancy and excitement after many a hard year.  Dino is closing in Cleveland Park and now comes to Shaw to experience its own rebirth into a new form and a new future.  We are excited to join such a dynamic and exciting neighborhood."
The crowdfunding is up and running (January 4th through February 6th) and the incentives are very good, if you participate.....look here....  everything from free drinks to 5 years of free food.

DINO Extends Current Lease in Cleveland Park;
Will Remain Open through Sun, Feb 23rd in Current Location Before Moving to Shaw to Open Dino’s Grotto

 WASHINGTON, DC – January 10, 2014: Chef Owner Dean Gold of DINO Restaurant and Enoteca in DC’s Cleveland Park neighborhood has reached an agreement with his current landlord. Instead of closing this coming Sunday January 12th as was originally announced, DINO will now remain open at its current location at the SE corner of Connecticut Ave and Ordway St. NW through Sunday night, February 23.

A long standing favorite and much acclaimed rustic Italian restaurant in Washington, DINO will move across town this spring to the Shaw neighborhood in the vicinity of 9th and U St NW. Because the current location is not quite ready for renovation/occupation, Gold negotiated to extend his current lease to stay open for an additional 6 more weeks.

Said Gold, “I have great employees who have been with me for years. By extending my lease in Cleveland Park, it was my goal to keep my team together and employed before then moving them over to the Shaw location (which will be named Dino’s Grotto) when it is ready.”

In anticipation of the move to the new location, Gold has also set up a “Dino’s Grotto Comes to Show” Indiegogo campaign at www.indiegogo.com/projects/dino-s-grotto-come-to-shaw where long time patrons as well as new fans of Dino can pledge funds. Based on the amount of money contributed, contributors receive discounts for dining or beverages, special tastings, or even the naming rights to everything from the Dino Burger to its Tap Beer list or Wine by the Glass program. As Gold says, “The purpose of creating the Indiegogo campaign is to take some of the ‘optional’ things desired for the new restaurant, and put them on the ‘must have’ list. In addition, I also see this as a fun way to reach out and create new ‘regulars’ of Dino before we even move into the Shaw neighborhood.”
