Echoing DC’s nearby art museums, the heart of the high-design Marriott Marquis Washington, DC will be a glass atrium lobby filled with natural light and an inspiring 56-foot sculpture. The largest piece of art in any Marriott hotel, “The Birth of the American Flag,” by Baltimore-based sculptor Rodney Carroll, will be the centerpiece of the social, high-tech lobby. Designed to be LEED Silver accredited, Marriott Marquis Washington, DC will incorporate the site’s original historic Samuel Gompers AFL-CIO headquarters, known as the "Plumbers Building.”

This summer is an exciting time in the nation's capital with the debut of the CityCenter complex, a brand-new, 10-acre, $700-million luxury retail center that The New York Times dubbed the "Rockefeller Center of DC." Visitors can cool down from shopping with a stroll through the “American Cool” exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery (through September), or the Degas & Cassatt display at the National Gallery of Art, which will be the only US stop for the renowned American Impression exhibit (through October). A Capital July 4th celebration wouldn’t be complete without the nationally televised concert featuring the National Symphony Orchestra followed by fireworks from the National Mall. This year’s celebration will be bigger than ever as the nation’s capital commemorates the 150th anniversary of Arlington Cemetery and the 200th anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner.
