WASHINGTON DC: Multiple Experiences in Indian Cuisine at Masala Art

Masala Art - Tenley
Masala is a spice blend. Masala Art is the art of mixing and presenting spices. It takes time to roast these spices to attain specific flavors. Masala Art offers authentic Indian food with two different dining experiences, in Tenley NW and in SW

Both restaurants feature authentic Indian dishes created with Masala Art’s home made and home roasted spice blends that create a unique flavor palate—one of un ‘Americanized’ regional dishes, but, instead, with the flavors actually found in the classic dish in its original environment. Each restaurant features a different take on unique flavors. 95% of the dishes are Gluten-free with many vegetarian and vegan options.
Masala Art SW
In the SW location, the atmosphere is earthy stone and wood with warm colors and Indian Art. Weekdays feature an a la carte lunch menu with a weekend buffet brunch and for dinner, a choice of tasting menu or a la carte choices. A full bar and Happy Hour with special menu is available early evening and late-night. Dishes tend to be a little more adventurous at this location with a contemporary flair to authentic Indian dishes and exotic masala mixes. On Mondays of each month, a specific region of India is featured with dishes from that area highlighted on a special menu. Live jazz music is offered on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 9 pm–midnight. Its location near the Atlas Theater makes it a wonderful post and pre-theater spot. Pre-theater menus are available. Masala Art SW Chef Ajay Ramola is an expert in innovative spices and has cooked at 5 star super deluxe hotels in India. He has cooked for many dignitaries including the ex-Prime Minister of India Mr. Manmohan Singh and the well-known political figure Mrs. Sonia Gandhi.

In NW, the restaurant has a homey feel that invites diners to relax and sample the flavors of India. At lunch, a substantial buffet is offered.
