GEORGETOWN: January Happenings at Via Umbria

Georgetown’s Italian food emporium and café Via Umbria will kick off 2017 with various Italian dinner parties, a cocktail making class, a sausage making demo and an Umbrian beer tasting. See below for the full details and let me know if you have any questions.

Beers of Umbria – Wednesday, January 11, 7:30 p.m.
Join Beer Director, Scott Weiss, as he leads guests through a tasting of Italian beers. The tasting will highlight a hand selected list of beers from four different breweries in the region of Umbria. All of the beers are carried in the store and can be purchased from Via Umbria’s market after the tasting. The full list of beers can be found below. Cocktail Making Class – January 19 & January 20, 7:30 p.m.
In a nod to inauguration week, Via Umbria will host a class on how to make classic American cocktails inspired by powerful women. Matt Demma of True Syrups will walk through the steps to making five different cocktails, and proceeds from the event will go toward Planned Parenthood. All guests must show a valid government-issued ID. - Price: $25

“Trufflemania” Italian Dinner Party – Saturday, January 21, 7:00 p.m.

Join special guest Chef Simone Proietti-Pesci as he prepares a four course dinner highlighting truffles imported directly from Italy. The dinner will take place in Via Umbria’s Laboratorio demonstration kitchen where guests will sit around a communal table and have the opportunity to interact with the chef throughout the night. Ahead of the dinner, guests are invited to join Via Umbria’s in-house wine expert to choose a bottle at retail price that will pair perfectly with the truffle dinner. The dinner is $125 and tickets can be purchased here:

Bistecca Italian Dinner Party – January 27 & January 28, 7:00 p.m.
Throughout the month, Via Umbria will host a selection of other Italian Dinner Parties, including two dinners dedicated to Bistecca alla fliorentina, a classic Tuscan dish. Both dinners will also be hosted and prepared by special guest chef Simone Proietti-Pesci in Via Umbria’s upstairs demonstration kitchen, and will incorporate the CYOB, or “choose your own bottle” element. Additionally, throughout January, Via Umbria will host their weekly bottomless brunch every Sunday, their monthly cheese of the month club on the 4th, and a wine and cheese tasting on the 18th. Additional special events in January include a travel night on January 10 where guests are invited to join owners Bill and Suzy Menard for an informal Q&A on all things Umbria; and a sausage making class on January 25 where in-house butcher Scott Weiss and guest chef Simone will show guests the methods for making traditional Italian sausage.
