Its Official, Its Open. Marriott Marquis DC

May 1st 2014: The date promised, and delivered. In an age of delays and opening dates being pushed back, the folks putting together The Marriott Marquis gone it done, on time. Congratulations.

This morning I took my first look at the new Marriott Marquis DC, with its clothes on. So much of the last 18 months have been hardhat and plywood reports, it was an absolutely exciting and pleasurable experience to see the completed project. Words that come to mind?  Drama, large pieces of art, lights, TV's everywhere. Comfort, everywhere I visited this morning seems targeted at providing the hotel's guests a comfortable and peaceful environment (even the exterior for The Dignitary bar feels like a living room). The staff were just as friendly as could be, and the smiles were genuine as the 'day has finally arrived'. You should plan to visit (and maybe book a room and stay) and check out all the restaurants, bars and other amenities.

Below is a, small, photo gallery;
I am starting with the official flag raising, on Mass Ave NW, which took place at noon today. Marriott Marquis chose 3 Military Vets to raise the flags, all 3 are employees at the hotel.
When you enter from Mass Ave NW, the drama of the interior hits you almost immediately.
Early this morning, the staff were right there to welcome the guests and visitors
Check In Here!
The Lobby Area, towards Mass Ave
Artist Rodney Carroll's centerpiece dominates
The 10th Street 'wall' - its dramatic and I have been fascinated by it since it was open to the elements
Two Lobby Water Features ans Sculptures

Atrium Restaurant & Bar. Dramatized by huge art pieces
Casual Drink or Happy Hour Meeting anyone?
Atrium Restaurant entrance only (with an opening time today of 12 noon, I didn't want to get underfoot)
Off of the mail lobby area the amenities keep coming. High Velocity sports bar, The Dignitary bar,  Starbucks and more all surround the hotels main floor.
Comfortable seating, a fire and a huge flat-screen, your living room away from home.
Fully stocked and open - the Gift Shop
Yup! Starbucks
Interior access to The Dignitary
Exterior living room of The Dignitary at 9th and Mass Ave NW
The Dignitary at night will be dramatic, when the wall behind the seating is lit-up by LED lights
No doubt that High Velocity will become a favorite place to hang out for sports fans
Flat Screen TV's just cover the walls
Ample Seating, plenty of light (from large exterior windows)
The well stocked bar
With more seating, more TV's everyone's team should be on display

Just love the 'surfboard tables"
Ending where I started...Flags Flying High

I hope that this photo gallery has given you an idea of how special this new DC Hotel is.
