COLUMBIA HEIGHTS: Esencias Panameñas Celebrates the 497th Year of the Foundation of Panama Viejo (or Old Panama) - August 15

 Celebrate the founding of Panama Viejo with traditional native dinner specials with wallet-friendly pricing for two.
 
Esencias Panameñas, Washington’s only Panamanian restaurant featuring authentic Panamanian cuisine with a Caribbean twist, located at 3322 Georgia Avenue, NW, will celebrate the Foundation of Panama Viejo (or Old Panama) from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, August 15th. This marks the day when Panama City was founded in 1519. Chef/Owner Yadira Camp will honor her native country on this historical day by treating guests at her restaurant to tempting dishes from Panama during dinner service. On August 15, one can purchase one dinner entrée and receive the second dinner entrée for just $8.15.
 Guests can anticipate entrées such as Arroz con Pollo, saffron rice with chicken, olives, capers, peas, carrots, fried plantains, and potato salad with beets; Filete de Corvina al Ajillo, Panama imported Corvina fish filet with garlic and butter sauce over a bed of sautéed kale, served with boiled yuca in a citrusy onions, garlic and parsley sauce; Bistec Vegetariano, beefless strips with onions and peppers, in a sweet & tangy sauce, over a bed of coconut pigeon peas and rice, fried sweet plantains, and kale salad; Plato Típico, Esencias Panameñas signature dish, saffron rice with chicken, olives, capers, peas, carrots, potato salad with beets, ground corn chicken tamal, fried sweet plantains, and house salad, and Rabo de Buey, oxtail with onions, peppers, and tomato chutney, over a bed of coconut pigeon peas and rice, fried sweet plantains, micro greens, and a house saladEntrées range in price from $17 to $25.
