The Grill Room, located within the
Rosewood Washington D.C. at 1050 31st Street, NW, is will be debuting Red Plate & Blue Plate prix fixe lunch specials to coincide
with the 2016 presidential election. Beginning Tuesday, September 6
th,
lunch-goers can select one dish off the featured Red Plate menu or Blue
Plate menu along with a choice of a glass of house red or white wine or
dessert for $28 per person (tax and gratuity not included).
Frank
Ruta, The Grill Room’s executive chef, served at The White House from
1979-1987. During his tenure, he prepared meals for former Presidents
Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush.
Chef Ruta’s Red Plate and Blue Plate specials offer classic dishes
from traditionally republican and democratic states. Featured items off
the Red Plate menu include the
Chicken Breast “Surryano”, chicken breast Paillard with ham from Surry, Virginia, spƤtzle and a fried hen egg; Texas Style Pulled Pork Sandwich, served on Texas Toast with thick onion rings and coleslaw, as well as
Louisiana Gumbo with Cajun potato salad.

Showstoppers off the Blue Plate menu include
Crispy Fried Open-Faced Maryland Soft-Shell Crab Sandwich with house mayo, fried spring onion, served with shoestring fries and pickled cabbage; Maine Lobster Salad with roasted and raw heirloom beets, zesty greens and a dressing of horseradish, lime and cumin, as well as
Grilled Washington State Salmon with geoduck clam and apple ceviche, served with a shot of coffee.
To complete the meal on a sweet note, guests can look forward to
house-made desserts courtesy of Pastry Chef Aggie Chin. Standouts
include the
Mississippi Mud Pie; Peach Cobbler; Red Velvet Cake and
Coconut Cake off the Red Plate menu, and
Concord Grape Sorbet; Apple Tart; New York Cheesecake and
Boston Cream Pie off the Blue Plate menu. Both menus will be available daily through Tuesday, November 8
th, from
11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Thyme to Decide |
For the perfect pairing, Bartenders Cecilio Silva and Ismael Barreto
are crafting three new election-themed cocktails, which will be
available at The Grill Room and The Rye Bar throughout the election
season. Priced from $14 to $16 each, the
Thyme to Decide is made from a combination of gin, honey syrup, lemon juice and blackberries, garnished with a thyme leaf; the
Pacific Blue is
created with a combination of vodka, lime juice, simple syrup, Luxardo
Maraschino liqueur and Blue Curacao, garnished with blueberries and a
lemon twist, and
The Green Card is made from a combination of mescal, honey, lime and ginger syrup, garnished with a lime wheel and basil leaves. The restaurant will be conducting informal polling weekly to see which cocktail is outselling its lively competitor.
