Jon Meacham is executive editor and executive vice president at Random House, as well as a contributing editor to Time magazine and a commentator on politics, history, and religious faith in America. He won the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Biography for American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House. Meacham also wrote Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power (2012), which appeared on many publications' year-end lists of the best non-fiction.The luncheon will be held on Top of The Hay on Friday, September 23rd, 2016, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. (doors open at 11:30 a.m.).
His newest book, Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush, raises the question whether everything about George H.W. Bush is outdated or whether he is a model the party and its president should return to—a noble kind of restraint in foreign policy based on diplomacy and a prudence in domestic affairs.
Jon Ellis Meacham was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he spent his high school years living with his grandfather, who gave Meacham his interest in history, literature, and politics. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in English Literature from University of the South in Tennessee. Aside from his highly successful writing career, Jon Meacham is a dedicated husband and father.
