‘DOG DAYS OF SUMMER CREATIVE GELATO CONTEST’ TODAY

Creative Confection Contest Featuring 5 Food-Loving Community Competitors – Group 1 - Running Monday, August 8th Through Sunday, August 14th, 2016

Just in time to help confection lovers cool off and beat the intense summer heat as we head into the Dog Days of Summer – fresh off his big win at the Gelato World Tour in Chicago securing the Technical Jury Award for his Saffron Pistachio with Candied Lemon Peel gelato flavor - award-winning Pastry Chef, gelato genius, and owner of Dolci Gelati Gianluigi Dellaccio has tapped some of the DC areas most exciting social media food fanatics in our community to craft their own custom creative gelato or sorbet flavors to showcase in Dolci Gelati’s 2nd annual ‘Dog Days of Summer Creative Gelato Contest’. The creative confection contest launches today at Dolci Gelati Café at City Market at O, 1420 8th St NW (202) 518-1287; www.DolciGelati.net; @DolciGelati in Shaw at Noon.

Beginning today, Monday, August 8th and running for one week through Sunday, August 14th, Dolci Gelati has collaborated with five major community social media gurus to create their own unique gelato or sorbet flavor. Dolci Gelati encouraged the community competitors to create flavors inspired by their brands, Washington DC, utilizing popular DC-focused ingredients/products from artisans, and seasonal ingredients.

Featured community competitors include IGDC, DC Dining, DCFoodPorn, East Coast Contessas, and DC Foodsters. The creative community-inspired creative gelato contest will run for one week and will only be available at Dolci Gelati Café located at City Market at O in Shaw. Each time a customer purchases a sweet scoop of one of the community competitors flavors, a token will be placed in a container labeled with the brands custom flavor details. At the end of the week, the winner with the most tokens wins, will be announced publicly, will win a private gelato party, and will also receive a check from Dolci Gelati donating a portion of the proceeds from the sales throughout the week to the local charity of their choice.

Additionally, another group of creative community members has been selected to participate in the second round of the contest and will be announced the third or fourth week of August. And to ensure that the entire DC area is involved in the late summer fun, Dolci Gelati fans are always invited to submit ideas for their own creative custom gelato and sorbet flavors by sharing their suggestions with Dolci Gelati via social media by tagging @DolciGelati.
