PENN QTR: DC Murals Exhibition at MLK Library - Walkabout - and Panel Discussion

There is a great exhibition about DC's Murals and Street Art going on at the Martin Luther King Jr. Library (9th & G NW) Its not huge in size, but huge in content.  The exhibition is broken down into segments, and covers most aspects of the growth of street art in DC. The exhibit offers a street map to guide you to some of the iconic murals to be seen in DC as well as offering 2 pieces by Kelly Towles, one of DC's best known street artists.
work by Kelley Towles
Each of the exhibits photo's has a more in-depth, interpretive text, look at the art and artist, something that is often overlooked. There is more here at the Murals DC web.

You should make a point of attending the panel discussion at the library on September 17, 6-8 pm, for a wide-ranging discussion on 'Mural Conservation and Restoration'. Panelists include muralist Byron Peck; DC developer Jim Abdo, Washingtonian archivist Mark Greek; and Lionell Thomas, former director of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

All in all a great exhibit, full of fun information that you can visit during your lunch break or after work and then plan your walk-about
