EDGEWOOD: Alamo Drafthouse Cinema Announces First Washington D.C. Location
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema today announced its first Washington, D.C. location at MRP Realty’s Bryant Street development along the Rhode Island Avenue corridor. The 44,000 square-foot theater is set to open in 2019 and is the fourth theater for franchisee Cojeaux Cinemas.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is the brainchild of Tim and Karrie League who dreamed of opening a neighborhood theater that would provide the community with a great place to come together for entertainment, as well as a second home for all movie fans.
“We are extremely pleased to have found a great Alamo Drafthouse Cinema location along the dynamic Rhode Island Avenue corridor of Northeast D.C. MRP Realty had the vision to re-integrate this property into the community in a way that helps its citizens reap the benefits of D.C. revitalization,” said Anthony Coco and Joseph Edwards, co-owners of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Washington D.C. “Every seat will be a luxury recliner and each auditorium will include Sony 4K Digital Cinema projection and top-of-the-line sound. Our commitment to the overall experience is evident through our from-scratch, in-house prepared food and extensive draft craft beer selections available both in the theater and at our stand alone bar Glass Half Full.”Alamo Drafthouse Cinema is world-renowned for their unique programming events and high exhibition standards, earning accolades such as “Best Theater Ever” by Time magazine and “the coolest theater in the world,” by Wired. The first Washington metro-area Alamo Drafthouse Cinema opened in 2013 at One Loudoun in Ashburn, Va. and the second location is currently under construction and set to open in the summer 2017 in Charlottesville, Va.
“The Alamo Drafthouse is the ideal anchor tenant for the first-phase of our Bryant Street development,” said Michael Skena, senior vice president of MRP Realty, “with public plazas, green space, interactive art installations, direct bike trail and metro access, Bryant Street is poised to be the most highly anticipated shopping, dining and entertainment district in Northeast D.C.”MRP is developing Bryant Street, a 13-acre site, as a residential-driven mixed-use community that will ultimately include 1,550 residential units and 245,000 square feet of retail.
