DOWNTOWN: Off The Record Debuts Four New Politically-Themed Cocktails Complementing Four Newly Commissioned Coasters

Angela Merkel, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Kim Jong Un, and Vladimir Putin join the list of featured world newsmakers featured on the collectible cocktail coasters found in Washington’s top power bar.

The Hay-Adams’ bar, Off The Record, an iconic watering hole for Washington’s power crowd, is pleased to debut four new politically-themed cocktails for leisurely sipping this season. Created by the bartending team at Off the Record, under the direction of Director of Food & Beverage Paride Guerra, guests can opt for the
Kiki’s Concerto with Absolut Elyx vodka, Don Ciccio & Figli Concerto liqueur and fresh espresso, garnished with a lemon twist;
Meddler in the Rye with One Eight Distilling vodka, Don Ciccio & Figli Finocchietto, fresh squeezed lime juice, tonic water, Chef Gene’s house-made spice mix and pepper;
Prost with PAMA pomegranate liqueur, grapefruit simple syrup and Stella Artois, garnished with a candied orange wheel, and the
38th Parallel with Ivy City gin, Don Ciccio & Figli Don Ferne, Plume & Thyme simple syrup and tonic water, garnished with a mint leaf. All four cocktails are priced at $16 each, and will be available through October 31, 2017.

Additionally, The Hay-Adams has commissioned three political cartoonists to create the new collectible drink coasters. Pulitzer Prize-winners Ann Telnaes and Matt Wuerker, as well as the notable Kevin “KAL” Kallaugher depict the political figures making headlines in 2017, which align with the new libations. These include the
Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel
Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Chairman of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Kim Jong Un; and
Russian President Vladimir Putin. To date, The Hay-Adams has commissioned 20+ collectable drink coasters including President Barrack Obama, President George W. Bush, President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer.

These new libations and collectable coasters were first introduced in the hotel’s “pop-up” bar on the lobby level, and will make their Off The Record debut on September 5, when the downstairs hideaway reopens following its summer renovation. Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday, from 11:30 a.m. to 12 a.m.; Friday & Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. The full bar menu is served until 11:00 p.m. daily.
