FAIRFAX: Black Squirrel Dunn Loring Takes DC Beer Week to Virginia - Beer/Ice Cream! Sour Beer/Cheese! Comic Books! Cosplay! - You Only Get That at Black Squirrel - Starts August 21st
The Black Squirrel has participated in D.C. Beer week since it began in 2008. This year, we're bringing a little D.C. Beer Week swagger to Virginia by sponsoring our annual Women in Beer event on Monday, August 21st, as part of DCBW educational series at our Virginia location in Dunn Loring. The Dunn Loring Black Squirrel also will host a sour beer and cheese pairing event on Thursday, August 24th, and a comic book swap/cosplay/gaming event with Heroic Aleworks on Friday, August 25th.

Combine beer and ice cream in proper fashion – with the help of the experts – and ascend to palate heaven. Allow the women of craft beer to be your sensory guides on Monday, Aug. 21st, starting at 6p.m. at the Black Squirrel In Dunn Loring Virginia, where we will delve into the scrumptious world of ice cream and beer.

Let’s embrace the wild side of sour and cheese pairings at The Black Squirrel in Dunn Loring on Thursday, August 24th, starting at 5 p.m.
A rich, dry, fruity and even funky beer and a cheese plate are a natural match. When it comes to pairing cheese with sour and wild beer, the principal axiom is: The smellier the better. Add local creameries, like Stuarts Draft, Greenhill Farms, and Firefly Farms, and you've got a hit/
Sour beer is produced in a number of ways: by kettle-souring a beer with lactic acid bacteria to create a kettle-soured beer, gose, or Berliner Weiss. A traditional sour is created by mixed fermentation of wild yeast and aged in wood barrels. This event will explore these types of sour beer.

- Trinity Brewing Red Swingline Wild IPA (DRAFT Magazine's Top 25 Beers in the World for 2013. Brewed with three heavily fruity hops, coriander, and tangerine zest. Aged in French Oak Chardonnay barrels with souring Lactobacillus, funky Brettanomyces yeast, and dry-hopped in each individual barrel.)
- Trinity Brewing TPS Report Wild Brettanomyces Wit with Roses Petals (GABF GOLD MEDAL 2009, Bronze 2012. Fermented with a very rare variety of Brettanomyces this beer is exceedingly aromatic. Aged on French Oak Chardonnay Barrels and roses petals.)
- Bear Republic Brewing 2015 Barrel-Aged Tartar (One of the world’s classic sour beer styles. Bronze medal at the 2011 Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer.)
- Old Ox Brewing Mango Funky Face (Kettle soured and dry hopped. Post fermentation additions of Galaxy Hops and mango.)
- Kindred Spirit Brewing Boyzen da Hood Boysenberry Gose
