WASHINGTON DC: Shucks, It’s Legal Sea Foods’ “Oyster Festival”

Back by popular demand, Legal Sea Foods is pleased to announce its ninth-annual Oyster Festival. Beginning September 14th through October 11th, three of Legal Sea Foods’ Washington area restaurants will celebrate all things oysters through showcasing menu items featuring the complex mollusk in delicious ways.

Oyster fans will be able to select Fried, Baked or Raw Oysters from the special menu. Fried Oyster dishes include Buffalo Oyster with blue cheese, celery hearts and radish; BBQ Oyster with coleslaw and BBQ mayo; Sriracha Lime Oyster with roasted corn salsa and crispy shallots, as well as the Oyster BLT with bacon, lettuce, tomato and chipotle mayo. Fried Oysters are priced at three for $10. The menu will also feature an abundance of Baked Oysters including the Lobster Spinach Oyster with cheese and herbed crumbs; Oyster Scampi with shrimp garlic butter and white wine; Crab & Cheese Oyster with Jonah crab, horseradish, cheddar and cream cheese, and the Roasted Oyster with smoked chorizo butter and fresh herbs. Baked Oysters are priced at three for $12.

Guests can also opt for oysters Au Natural on the Half Shell, as Legal will be shucking seasonal oysters at the raw bar, priced at market price of the day. Seasonal favorites include Cranberry Cove, Osterville, MA, medium brine with contrasting sweet and clean finish; Wellfleet, Wellfleet Harbor, MA, with a distinctive balance of creamy sweet and a sharp brine; Standish Shore, Duxbury, MA, with a medium brine with a meaty body and crisp finish; Glidden Point, Wellfeet Harbor, MA, medium salt with a buttery full bodied finish; Katama Bay, Martha’s Vineyard, MA, extremely plump meat, mild brine with a smooth finish; Sandy Neck, Barnstable, MA, burst of salinity upfront with a prolonged ocean finish; Pemaquid, Damariscotta River, ME, lemony zest and solid brininess; Cotuit, Cotuit, MA, plump meat, with clean and sweet finish; Capital, Spencer Cove, WA, mild brine, creamy cucumber meat, and a mineral finish; Nasketucket, Nasketucket Bay, MA, strong brine, fresh seaweed taste and a zebra shell, as well as Kumamoto, Oakland, WA, low salinity, melon aroma and mineral finish. The selection will change daily based on availability.

For the perfect pairing, guests can opt for the Skiff Cocktail, the official drink of this year’s Oyster Festival, which is made from a combination of Absolut vodka, aromatized wine, lemon, botanicals, and celery bitters, priced at $11.
