SHAW: Nocturne Grand Opening - The Cocktail Bar Hidden in the Basement of Sugar Shack - Oct. 26

Nocturne, the cocktail bar hidden in the basement of Sugar Shack Donuts and Coffee in D.C.’s Shaw neighborhood, opens for full hours and service Thursday, Oct. 26. The intimate space will offer discerning cocktail drinkers a show-like presentation as their drinks are prepared, and an opportunity to sample tasting flights drawn from a menu of more than thirty cocktails. A selection of bar snacks by Executive Chef Brandon McDermott will round out the unique experience.

Nocturne’s menu will include cocktail tasting flights of three and five drinks in three-quarter pours. A la carte drinks in three-quarter pours will be available after the first flight. A selection of all-inclusive food and drink pairings will showcase bar snacks and the bar’s curated selection of beers, wines and premium spirits. Guests will enjoy an intimate, personal interaction with their bartender who will guide their tasting experience.
“The bar presentations will focus on meticulous craftsmanship, exceptional ingredients and careful attention to detail,” says owner Rob Krupicka.

Chef McDermott’s menu of bar snacks includes oysters with caramel and espresso, brown sugar and clove dusted jerky, duck liver pate, Huana marshmallow infused with bitters and topped with finger lime, and root beer pudding with smoked whipped cream, malted milk crumble and peanut crunch. Snacks will be presented to guests as elegant treasures – in jewel boxes, mason jars, tea cups and on miniature pedestals.
Nocturne’s innovative format is the brainchild of the creative team behind Captain Gregory’s in Sugar Shack’s Alexandria location. Captain Gregory’s has received accolades since opening in 2016. It was named among the top four “swanky” speakeasies in the D.C. area by DC Modern Luxury, and The Washington Post’s Fritz Hahn called it one of his favorite D.C. metro speakeasies.

Nocturne’s grand opening will coincide with the launch of Sugar Shack Shaw’s Donuts After Dark program. Nocturne bartenders and Chef McDermott will collaborate on a rotating menu of boozy donut flavors and coffee drinks for Shaw’s night time crowd. Some after dark flavors will be served warm.

Reservations for Nocturne are available on the website nocturnebar.com and on Open Table. Bar guests enter through Sugar Shack Shaw and receive further instructions from Sugar Shack staff. Donuts After Dark is a walk-in program.

Nocturne will be open Tuesday-Saturday beginning at 5:30 p.m. Last seatings are typically done around 10 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and 12 a.m. Friday-Saturday.
