DUPONT: Inaugural William Christenberry Fellowdhip Award at Studio Gallery
Studio Gallery is pleased to present the inaugural William Christenberry Fellowship Award to emerging artist Julie Koehler. Koehler's experiments with light and shadow and her explorations of conceptual topics, such as chance and intention, result in striking, abstract works on paper that truly capture the imagination.
William Christenberry was a world-famous photographer, painter, printmaker and sculptor. He was a professor at the Corcoran College of Art + Design, and his work is in the permanent collections of major museums throughout the United States and Europe. He was a mentor to many Studio Gallery members, both past and present. This award, made possible by the generosity of former Christenberry student Jeff Mace, honors Christenberry's memory, as well as the artistic contributions of Julie Koehler to Studio Gallery.
Koehler, who earned her MFA from American University in 2012, will receive an associate degree in Textile Surface Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City this May. Her graduation exhibition will take place at the Museum at FIT from May 13 through 25, 2017.
