SHAW: Affordable Sustainable Seafood Every Day at Drift on 7th

Seafood remains a popular menu staple. It can be healthy, lighter, and has a variety of flavor profiles. At Drift on 7th, located at 1819 7th Street NW, just by the Shaw Metro, the seafood is not only delicious, but also approachable in price, sustainable and environmentally responsible.

Chef Ferhat Yalcin draws his inspiration from the simple preparations and fresh seafood dishes of the Bosphorus where fishermen draw the day’s catch directly from the seas to the plate—simply prepared. He cooks up a variety of dishes from apps to entrees, that are a combination of the classic and the contemporary. The menu includes dishes like Tots and Tentacles ($12)—Calamari and Haddock “tots’ served with hand-cut fries; Bouillabaisse ($19 )-Rockfish, Hake, Mussels and Shrimp, in a Saffron Broth with grilled Sourdough bread; Maine Lobster Roll with Tarragon Mayo ($18); grilled fish Tacos ($14) with pico de gallo and garlic sour cream ($14); Jumbo Lump Crab Cake ($20); Seared Sardines ($14); Lobster Bisque ($9) and a variety of salads--just a few highlights.
For brunch, featured are such dishes as homemade Beignets ($7); Lobster Omelette ($16); Catfish and Waffles ($12) and Shrimp and Grits ($15). Bottomless Mimosas and Bloody Marys are also available, and a Happy Hour menu is offered 4-7 pm on weekdays with homemade chips for all at the bar. Artisan cocktails, wines and beer are also available at all meal periods and Happy Hour.

The bar is underlit with ocean blue, while the walls feature warm wooden boardwalk planks and marine décor. Live Jazz music is featured every Tuesday and Thursday pm 6-9 pm and at brunch on Sundays from 12-3 pm features the best of local musicians.
