GEORGETOWN: July Lineup of Classes, Tastings & Demos at Via Umbria

A lot going on at Via Umbria this month here are some details on several upcoming classes, tastings and demos in July. In addition to these special events, Via Umbria will also host their weekly Italian dinner parties, the cheese of the month club, Sunday bottomless brunches and their “movie and a meal” nights. Being the Butcher: Bird is the Word – Wednesday, July 12, 7:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, July 12, Via Umbria’s in-house butcher Scott Weiss will host a class that focuses solely on chickens. Weiss will teach guests different techniques to prepare different cuts of chicken and what flavors pair well with the dishes. The class will be held in the upstairs demonstration kitchen and small bites will be provided.

Pasta Making Class: Roll Out the Ravioli – Tuesday, July 18, 7:30 p.m.

Learn how to make perfect Ravioli pillows at this interactive demonstration and class on Tuesday, July 18. Guests will learn how to make the pasta, roll it out, and how and what to fill the Ravioli with. Beer and wine will be available for purchase and all guests will go home with a recipe card to recreate the pasta in their own kitchen.

Tasting: Spread the Love (of Cheese) – Wednesday, July 19, 7:30 p.m.

Join Via Umbria on Wednesday, July 19 in their wine room for a tasting of spreadable cheeses. The tasting will walk guests through four different types of soft and creamy cheeses with a sip of wine or beer to accompany each taste. Additional wine and beer will be available for purchase by the glass.

Cocktail Class: Very Vermouth – Tuesday, July 25, 7:30 p.m.

In-house mixologist Matt Demma is hosting a cocktail class on Thursday, July 25 to teach the secrets of mixing with vermouth. Guests will learn how to shake up four different vermouth cocktails and will see a demonstration of how to create a batch of sweet vermouth at home.
