ARLINGTON: JBG SMITH and Arlington County Extend Pop-Up Library Through 2018

JBG SMITH Properties (NYSE:JBGS), a leading owner of high-quality, mixed-use properties located in the Washington, DC market, and Arlington County announced today that The Connection: Crystal City—Pop-up Branch Library will be open through June of 2018. The library will remain in its current location at 2100 Crystal Drive.

Taking an innovative approach to meeting patrons where they live and work, The Connection opened in September 2016, with an initial operating term extending through December of this year. After an overwhelmingly positive response to the Library in a community survey in November, JBG SMITH and Arlington County are working together to keep it open longer.

“The revitalization of Crystal City is a top priority for JBG SMITH,” said Andrew VanHorn, Executive Vice President of Development at JBG SMITH. “The Connection is a prime example of the placemaking efforts we are employing throughout the area, in that we are finding creative ways to provide value and utilize space. It has been especially rewarding to be able to work closely with Arlington County to provide a service that Crystal City residents and neighbors both need and enjoy.”

“The Connection has proven to be an innovative and popular space for the Crystal City community,” said Arlington County Manager Mark Schwartz. “Thanks to JBG for partnering with us to keep the pop-up branch library open until June 2018. When the business community and government work together, the community benefits.”

Along with offering books, audio visual materials, games and tech access, The Connection also provides space for community meetings, workshops, book groups, and other gatherings. The Connection library also hosts art exhibits and a diverse set of events throughout the week.
