GEORGETOWN: Italian BBQ, Cabana Cocktails & more at Via Umbria in May

Here are the May events at Via Umbria, including a variety of hands-on cooking and cocktail classes like how to make summer cocktails and how to make the perfect antipasti platter.
Cooking Class: How to Tagliatelle – Tuesday, May 9, 7:30 p.m.

Join Via Umbria in their demonstration kitchen for a hands-on class on how to make Tagliatelle. The class will show guests every step from start to finish, including making and rolling out the dough, and cooking the pasta. After the pasta has been made, guests will learn about – and taste – the variety of different sauces that pair nicely with this egg pasta.

Being the Butcher: Got Grillz? – Wednesday, May 10, 7:30 p.m.

In-house butcher Scott Weiss invites guests to join him for a demonstration on how to “grill” without the grill. During this interactive tasting, Weiss will teach guests the secrets behind grill marks and achieving grilled flavor without stepping out of the kitchen. He’ll also be sharing some of his favorite recipes for the summer.

Cocktail Class: Cabana Cocktails – Tuesday, May 16, 7:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, May 16, house mixologist Matt Demma will help guests prepare for summer with a class on how to make cabana cocktails. During the class, Demma will teach participants how to make five different cocktails, as well as an Oleo Saccharum, a cocktail syrup perfect for any punch or summertime drink.

Cooking Class: Antipasti Platters – Wednesday, May 31, 7:30 p.m.

Learn how to make antipasti platters perfect for entertaining during this hands-on class on May 31. Guests will learn how to build platters and will have the opportunity to sample an array of Italian recipes that can be recreated at home.

Italian Dinner Parties – (every week on Thurs, Fri and Sat)

Each week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, Via Umbria hosts intimate Italian dinner parties in their demonstration kitchen where guests are seated around a community table and can interact with the chef throughout the meal. Each week, the theme of the dinner changes, and for May, some highlights include Italian barbeque; Festa del Limone, which will showcase the flavors of fresh Italian lemons; and a Weekend in Umbria, which features the traditional flavors of Umbrian cuisine.
